The original official name of this church (translated) is St. Johannes (St. John's) German Evangelical Lutheran Church of La Porte, Indiana. The congregation was formed July 1857 and the Day School was started two months later, in September. All records of Official Acts (baptisms through 1944, burials through 1955, marriages through 1955 and confirmations through 1954) have been placed on microfilm and put on file in the Indiana District Office of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They are also available at the La Porte County Public Library in La Porte, Indiana. Cemetery records for St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, La Porte, IN include the name, section, lot and grave number.
