This Week at St. John’s Fourth Sunday in Lent — March 26, 2006From Pastor Young: Welcome! Our Gospel text from the 3rd chapter of John is rich with eternal consequences: believe and have eternal life; do not believe and condemn yourself. May God strengthen your belief as you receive his Word and Son!
ANNOUNCEMENTS Pastor Young will be on vacation March 31st through April 7th. To contact him in case of emergency during this week, please call the church office. Thank you. Immediate need—water softener for our school building: All we need is either 19 people to contribute $100 each or 38 people to contribute $50 each and the $1900 project can be completed. Contributions in any amount will be greatly appreciated and may be turned in to the Church Office. We would like to reach this goal by April 1, 2006. From the Finance Committee: Contribution statements for 2005 will be available in the church office until April 17. After that date, they will be destroyed. If you need your statement, please pick it up by that date. The Finance Committee now has the capability of providing contributors with a quarterly contribution statement, if requested. Please speak to Linda Peters or Ron Scherer for more information. From the Willing Servants: The Willing Servants would like to thank all the ladies who have made donations of food dishes and help for our past funeral luncheons. Without your help we cannot function. Unfortunately, a lot of our ladies are no longer able to offer any assistance and our calling list is being depleted. If any ladies would like to be added to our calling list for food dishes, please call Jo Ann Borg at 326-6089 or Louise Mellenthin at 324-9257. Your help will be greatly appreciated, as we feel this is truly a labor of love. From the Board of Parish Fellowship: The Board of Parish Fellowship is looking for some additional members. This has become a very active and hard working board, and they could use more help. Some of their responsibilities include; Fellowship Coffees with monthly “Specialty Fests”, soup suppers, progressive dinners, recognition celebrations, new member welcomes and annual hog roast/church picnic. If you are interested in helping out, please call Linda Peters at 393-3496. From St. John’s Thrift Shop: We are in urgent need of more volunteers at our Thrift Shop! Shifts are from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Any of you ladies who could give three or more hours a month of your time, please call Arlene Hacker at 362-8916. Your willingness to help will be most appreciated and of great benefit to our congregation. Easter Lilies: It is time for us to start asking for donations for the Easter Lilies. We do appreciate all your help in the past and pray that you will be so generous again this year. The cost per lily is $10.00. You can make your donation to the church office, Kathy Page, Joan Scherer, or Sherrill Lee. The lilies will be taken down after the second service on the Sunday following Easter (April 23). If you are going to take your lily, please be there at that time. If not for yourself, maybe you know someone who would really appreciate a flower and a visit from you. Thank you again for your donations to the flower fund. Progressive Dinner: The Board of Parish Fellowship is planning the Spring Progressive Dinner for Friday, April 21, 2006 at 6 pm. After meeting up with host families over appetizers in the school, participants will travel to the home of their host family for the entrée. Following the main course, all will return to the school for dessert and fellowship. If you haven’t been involved in previous Progressive Dinners, please give it a try! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for an enjoyable evening. This is not a “couples only” event! Please fill out the form found in this bulletin, and return to the church office or place in the offering plate by April 11. The Board of Parish Fellowship will then draw names to fill a host’s party of eight. Perhaps this group will include a mixture of old friends as well as a chance to establish new ones! His Word, Our Joy”: “His Word, Our Joy” will meet today at 6:30 pm in the music room. The topic will be “Fruits of the Spirit”. The children will make cards to encourage the older and sick to be faithful. Thanks: The Youth Group would like to thank all the members of the congregation who made our recycling day so successful. We received $133.40 from your donations. Please keep saving those cans, we will have another collection day soon! My heartfelt thanks go to all of you for your kind words, prayers, cards and help during Marvin’s illness, as well as, after his death. A special thanks to the Pastors for their care, to the Willing Servants for the luncheon and to the Altar Guild for their support. I am thankful for being a member of such a loving congregation! SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service. FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service. SUNDAY SCHOOL begins at 9:25 AM in the Church Lower Level. BIBLE CLASSES: Adult Bible Study follows the Fellowship Coffee in the Cafeteria at 9:30 AM.
