This Week at St. John’s 6th Sunday after the Epiphany - February 11, 2007
ANNOUNCEMENTS
From the Board of Parish Fellowship: Please come to Fellowship Coffee after the 8:00 am service today for wonderful chocolate treats. A donation of $2.00 per family is requested to help defray costs of our annual Hog Roast and our 150th Anniversary expenses. The Lenten Soup Suppers will be served beginning February 28, at 5:30 pm. Would a board, circle or individual/s like to participate? Dates available are Wednesday evenings March 7, 14, 21 and 28. We want to keep the menu easy, requiring only soups, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the kids, crusty breads, crackers and cookies or brownies. Please call Marilyn Boardman. All Parish Fellowship Board members, please remember to attend our meeting this Tuesday at 7 pm. Introduction to “Lutheran Service Book”: For the next two Sundays, February 18 and February 25, Bible Study will be held in the Chapel after the 8:00 AM service. We will have a chance to learn about the “Lutheran Service Book.” (LSB) The Commission on Worship of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has spent nearly eight years in the development of a new hymnal, that they believe to be a rich compilation of services, psalms, hymns, and prayers. Please come for a look at this new hymnal, and perhaps, sing a hymn or two! Because we are meeting in the Chapel, there will be no Fellowship Coffee in the cafeteria for the next two weeks. Come One, Come All! Bring Friends! Just after Valentine's Day, on Sunday February 18th at 6:30 P.M., we will have a special musical program in the gym entitles "Loving Jesus - the Many Languages of Praise." We will have some old songs and some new, some gospel, some international songs, Messianic music, kids' music, and opportunities to sing along. Bring some snacks along if you can, and we'll all share some fellowship afterwards. Join us for a great time praising our Lord in many ways, with one heart! Chili: The Sunday school is again challenging anyone who wants to participate in our Chili Challenge. Exciting prizes, great tasting From the Family Circle: The Family Circle is once again selling coupon books for “Community Day,” March 3, at Carson Pirie Scott in Michigan City. Coupon books are $5.00 each and the Family Circle keeps 100% of the money they collect. The coupon books contain a $10.00 coupon, good on any item of $10.00 or more, and eight additional coupons, each good for up to 20% off almost any regular or sale priced merchandise in the store. Coupon books are available from any Family Circle member or at the Church Office. If you have any questions, please call the Church Office. (The Family Circle is now raising funds to help finance a Retreat/Bible Study on Christian Marriage for married couples.) From the Finance Committee: Please do not use contribution envelopes that you have left from 2006, or your money may be credited to someone else's account! If you do not have 2007 contribution envelopes, they are available in the church basement or from Linda Peters or Ron Scherer. Individual yearend statements are still available in the church office. Shadetree Mechanics: The next gathering of “Shadetree Mechanics for God” will be on February 22 at 7:00 pm. We will meet at Roger Marvel’s home at 1056 North Goldring Road. All are welcome—young, old, male and female. We also need small projects to work on and can arrange pick up and drop off. Any questions, please call Luke Vandercar or Jim Peters. “His Word, Our Joy:” Tonight is the night! Come to the music room at 6:30 PM and join in singing and praying together at “His Word, Our Joy”. There will be an activity for children, so bring the whole family or just yourself. From the Thrift Shop: The Thrift Shop is in need of brown paper bags. If you have any to spare, please drop them off at the Thrift Shop or at the church office. Thank you! Donations: Kenneth and Lauretta Hanson made a donation to St John’s Lutheran School for the 7th and 8th grade trip to Washington D.C.

PETITIONS, INTERCESSIONS, AND THANKSGIVING PRAYERS before worship can be found in Lutheran Worship on pages 124-133! SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service.FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service. BIBLE CLASSES: Adult Bible Study follows the Fellowship Coffee in the Cafeteria at 9:30 AM. SUNDAY SCHOOL begins at 9:25 AM in the Church Lower Level.
Bulletin for Saturday and Sunday February 10th-11th, 2006 6th Sunday after the Epiphany Welcome! A warm greeting to our visitors and guests! Our 7th and 8th Grade Catechesis class will lead today’s worship. You will participate in an explanatory order of liturgy that will teach you and preach to you about the Divine Service, the historic order for Lutheran Worship. We follow this order not because we believe it is the only right way but because we believe this ancient pattern of worship most clearly and beautifully serves the purpose of delivering God’s gracious gifts of forgiveness and eternal life. May you both hear and receive blessings today!
