This Week at St. John’s Transfiguration Sunday — February 18, 2007 From Pastor Brauer: Welcome to God’s House on Transfiguration Sunday! Moses was there; so was Elijah. They represented the Law and the Prophets as testimony of Jesus’ person and mission. They and the three disciples were wrapped in a cloud and heard the voice from heaven, “You are My Son.” By baptism, you, too, hear that voice and are wrapped in a cloud, surrounded by God’s power and grace. His Word, in the person of Jesus Christ, is unveiled to the world on the cross, not in booths as Peter so wished. We make our departure into the world to let our light shine and to tell others of what the disciples would hold silent.
ANNOUNCEMENTS Bible Study/Fellowship Coffee: Today is the last of a two week study and introduction to the new Lutheran hymnal, the Lutheran Service Book (LSB). This hymnal has been in the making for nearly eight years and was carefully prepared by The Commission on Worship of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. According to the Commission: “Among its many features, Lutheran Service Book offers: fresh expressions of the Gospel, services you know, and favorite hymns restored.” Please join us in the Chapel, after the 8 am service, to become acquainted with this new hymnal. Because this “study” is being held in the chapel, there will be no Fellowship Coffee this week. Fellowship Coffee will resume on March 4th along with our continuing Bible Study on the devil. Come One, Come All! Bring Friends! Today, Sunday, at 6:30 P.M., we will have a special musical program in the gym entitles "Loving Jesus - the Many Languages of Praise." We will have some old songs and some new, some gospel, some international songs, Messianic music, kids' music, and opportunities to sing along. Pastor Keller and the Burmese youth will be here to participate with us also. Bring some snacks along if you can, and we'll all share some fellowship afterwards. Join us for a great time praising our Lord in many ways, with one heart! From St. John’s Seniors: The February potluck meeting of St. John’s Seniors will be held on Wednesday, February 21, at 11:30 in the school cafeteria, and all senior members of St. John’s are cordially invited to attend. Soup Suppers: The Lenten Soup Suppers will be served beginning February 28, at 5:30 pm. Would a board, circle or individual/s like to participate? TO OUR VISITORS: We extend a warm welcome to the assembly of believers gathered to worship with us at St. John’s! First time visitors, please sign the visitors section of the pew pad located at the end of the pew. We want to know who you are! For your convenience, restrooms, first aid, telephone needs and a nursery room for children ages 5 & under are provided in the church basement under the Narthex (“lobby”). God bless your worship! PETITIONS, INTERCESSIONS, AND THANKSGIVING PRAYERS before worship can be found in Lutheran Worship on pages 124-133! SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service. FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service. BIBLE CLASSES: Adult Bible Study follows the Fellowship Coffee in the Cafeteria at 9:30 AM. SUNDAY SCHOOL begins at 9:25 AM in the Church Lower Level.
