This Week at St. John’s 2nd Sunday in Lent - March 4, 2007 From Pastor Young: Welcome! We are surrounded by the darkness of sin and death. Our own faulty vision of God and his mercy can confine us to a joyless existence and tarnish for others the splendor of God's unrestrained love. Thanks be to God that Jesus shines the light of hope on our darkened hearts and restores us, through Word and Sacrament, to joy in our relationship with the Father and with each other. ANNOUNCEMENTS Fellowship Coffee/Bible Study: Fellowship coffee resumes today in the cafeteria after the 8:00 AM Service. Bible Study will also resume with the study on the devil today in the cafeteria. Tuesday Evening Bible Studies: First Tuesday of the Month: March 6 “Elijah, the Prophet of God” continues at 7 pm in the Ladies Lounge. Adult Basketball: Church members and parents of students are invited to join in some basketball exercise, on Thursday evenings, beginning March 1, from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. This is for men and women over age 21. Please leave the kids at home, this is a chance to get away from the kids and have some fun! We will provide the basketballs. Easter Lilies: It is time for us to start asking for donations for the Easter Lilies. We do appreciate all your help in the past and pray that you will be so generous again this year. The cost per lily is $10.00. You can make your donation to the Church Office, Marilyn Boardman, Mary Jo Uebele, or Sherrill Lee. Please let us know at that time if you will be picking up your lily. The lilies will be taken down after the 2nd service on the Sunday following Easter – (April 15th.) If you are going to take your lily, please be there to pick it up at that time. If not for yourself, maybe you know someone who would really appreciate a flower and a visit from you. Thank you again for your donations to the flower fund. His Word, Our Joy: Coming on March 11, forty-five minutes of joyful praise to our God, starting at 6:30 pm in the choir room in the school. All ages are invited to join together as children of God to praise His name. Lily Event: The 2007 Lily Event will be held on Friday, May 4. SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service.FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service.
