This Week at St. John’s The Holy Trinity - June 3, 2007
From Pastor Young Welcome to worship! The Festival of the Holy Trinity is the one major celebration of the church year which finds its focus in a doctrine. We are people gathered around our shared confession of God as we know Him to be in the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is our ordered faith, expressed plainly in the words of our common creeds, that for us is the source of hope which does not disappoint.
"A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT" Acts 2:14; 22-26: The Holy Spirit has called us to be children of God who have the privilege and responsibility to live as children of God. Our giving of time, talent and treasure is an important part of how we show that we are good stewards of all of life and life’s resources.
ANNOUNCEMENTS From the Activities Committee: The Activities Committee will have a meeting on Monday, June 4, at 1:15 PM. This is a very important meeting. Please have a representative from your Circle, including Ladies Aid, attend. Thank you. From Family Circle: As you know, the Family Circle has been working to create a cookbook in honor of St. John's 150th anniversary. Unfortunately the response has been somewhat slow, and as a result we are extending the deadline to June 8th. You may submit up to four recipes per contributor. We are hoping to collect cherished recipes from all the great cooks in our congregation. Recipes handed down through the generations are especially welcome as are traditional German ones. We also encourage submission of photographs and/or a brief remembrance of the author. If you are computer savvy, we encourage you to go to www.typensave.com to submit your recipe. List your name as the contributor. The Group Login is (omitted from online), and the password is (omitted from online). It only takes a few minutes and is very user friendly. If you'd rather, there are now recipe collection sheets you can fill out at the church office and in the narthex. Committee members will then type your recipe for you. You can return these completed sheets to the church office where a basket is provided. Let's work together to make this cookbook a great success that we can treasure for a long time to come! Annual Parking Lot Sale: Now is the time to clean those closets and sort through the children’s toys. For only $7.00 you can be a part of the sale at St. John’s. Customers have flocked to our past sales due to the highly visible location with multiple sales. We do the advertising and bring in the customers, you sell from your van, truck or bring your own tables and chairs. Refreshments will be available. The time and date is Saturday, June 16, 2007, from 8:00 AM-1:00 PM. For more information, call Ellen Heidel, 362-5694. Can Recycling Day: Saturday, June 16 (Parking Lot Sale day) is our next can recycling day. Please bring your cans 9:00 AM-11:00 AM and drop them off near the school entrance. All money goes toward the 150th Anniversary Fund. From the Board of Parish Fellowship: Next Sunday, June 10, is “Strawberry Shortcake Fest” during Fellowship Coffee. Come enjoy this wonderful summer treat. Afterward, everyone is invited to stay for Bible Study. Mark your calendars now! August 26 is the outdoor service with family picnic and hog roast. From the Worship Committee and Trustees: Rolling Sound, from Rolling Prairie, has done a thorough check and evaluation of the sound system in the church and the Trustees have authorized an update to be done. We will be getting new lapel mikes for the Pastors, pulpit mike, handheld mike for the balcony, CD burner (for radio broadcasts), and basic updates to the system. The total cost will be $3300. We already have a few donations toward this project, but would gladly accept donations from anyone wishing to help. Rolling Sound now has the equipment we need and it should be installed soon. St. John’s Senior Tours: The Branson, MO. Christmas Shows trip will be November 7-11, 2007. Four reservations are available. Call Eunice Wright at 362-7947 for complete details and reservations. Confirmation Pictures: The pictures taken of the 2007 Confirmation Class are in the church office. If you ordered any, please pick them up or call the church office to arrange to get them. St. John’s Daycare is Now Open Year-Round: If you are interested in summer childcare, we are now offering it here at St. John’s! Please come to the school office or daycare room to fill out an information sheet as soon as possible, so we can reserve a spot for your child. If you have any questions, call Julie Vergin, at the school office (362-6692). We are also wanting to update our little fenced in playground that is used by the Pre-school/Pre-K classes and younger daycare children. We are looking for new or used outdoor play equipment and toys that are in good condition. If you have any items you would like to donate, please call Julie Vergin at the school, 362-6692. TO OUR VISITORS: We extend a warm welcome to the assembly of believers gathered to worship with us at St. John’s! First time visitors, please sign the visitors section of the pew pad located at the end of the pew. We want to know who you are! For your convenience, restrooms, first aid, telephone needs and a nursery room for children ages 5 & under are provided in the church basement under the Narthex (“lobby”). God bless your worship! PETITIONS, INTERCESSIONS, AND THANKSGIVING PRAYERS before worship can be found in Lutheran Worship on pages 124-133! SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service.FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service. BIBLE CLASSES: Adult Bible Study follows the Fellowship Coffee in the Cafeteria at 9:30 AM.
