This Week at St. John’s

3rd Sunday after Pentecost - June 17, 2007

From Pastor Brauer

God bless you this day! And to our fathers on this Fathers’ Day, “Happy Father's Day—You’re the Man!” Taken in that combination, you may feel a sense of pride. But the last part was spoken by God’s prophet to another father, not as a greeting but as judgment. David’s sins of lust, adultery, deception, and murder (to name a few) did not go unnoticed by God. Neither did the sins of the woman at Jesus’ feet. Neither do our sins. “You are the man…You are the woman…You are the child” We all stand guilty before God. But “The Lord has put away your sin—you shall not die.” That is the undeserved love that God lavishes upon us. It is love that sent Jesus to the cross. It is love that forgives. It is love that compels us to forgive those who sin against us. It is love that crucifies us to Christ and we live to God.

"A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT"

Galatians 2:15-21; 3:10-14: St. Paul reminded the Galatians and us that we do not produce good works as Christian stewards in order to gain salvation. Rather, we produce good works as Christian stewards as an appropriate response to being saved by grace through faith in Jesus as our Savior.

TO OUR VISITORS: We extend a warm welcome to the assembly of believers gathered to worship with us at St. John’s! First time visitors, please sign the visitors section of the pew pad located at the end of the pew. We want to know who you are! For your convenience, restrooms, first aid, telephone needs and a staffed nursery for children ages 5 & under are provided in the church basement under the Narthex (“lobby”). God bless your worship!

PETITIONS, INTERCESSIONS, AND THANKSGIVING PRAYERS before worship can be found in Lutheran Worship on pages 124-133!

SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker.

ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service.

FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service.
