This Week at St. John’s 4th Sunday after Pentecost - June 24, 2007
From Pastor Brauer: Welcome to Worship on this Lord’s Day! That one day in Jesus’ day-planner took Him, of all places, to a cemetery. And of all people to meet was one naked man that was demon-possessed. “What have you to do with us?” was the demon’s cry. Jesus would have answered, “Everything.” Jesus would send those demons out and restore this man to his right senses. Jesus does the same to us—He restores us to our right senses and clothes us in His righteousness, for we have run naked with sin, just like our first parents, Adam and Eve. He casts out the evil demon from us and gives us His Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit’s power, we are quickened, strengthened, absolved, and set free. Through Jesus’ blood we are cleansed and have received His robe of righteousness. Through the Father’s grace, we are bold to tell everyone what He has done! A Few Notes about Our Worship Today: We are again introducing the Lutheran Service Book, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s new hymnal. While the orders of service appear the same as in the previous hymnals, there are some new things to note. Please take time in your service preparation to note these revisions. We would always encourage taking the bulletin insert with the Introit Psalm and Readings and place it at the beginning page of the Liturgy for the day. Be sure to take this insert home for use in your personal and family devotions in the week ahead. To date, 21 cases of hymnals (294 total) have been purchased through gifts, memorials, and donations. This gives us just less that half of what is needed to furnish the pews with the LSB. We thank God for these gifts and the givers of these gifts! Also, last Sunday’s sermon was to have been “Short Sermon Sunday,” however, the group responsible for reviewing Pastor Brauer’s sermon noted that it was its usual 17 minute length. Therefore, in order to make good with the donors from the LILY event who sponsored “Short Sermon Sunday,” today’s sermon will be shortened.
"A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT" Galatians 3:23-4:7: By faith in Jesus Christ we have become children of God. What a privilege—to be children of God! What an awesome challenge—to be children of God! May God’s Holy Spirit help us to speak and act more and more like our Father in heaven.

SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service.FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service. BIBLE CLASSES: Adult Bible Study follows the Fellowship Coffee in the Cafeteria at 9:30 AM.
