This Week at St. John’s 6th Sunday after Pentecost - July 8, 2007
From Pastor Young: Welcome! Greetings to you in Jesus name! Today, God’s Word speaks to us of what it means to be “the Church.” As Christians, we not only confess the truth of Jesus Christ, but we also live it in our relationships with each other as God’s people. To give comfort and aid to one another, to stand with each other and sacrifice for each other as we face the trials of life is a picture for the world to see the love God has for each of us!
"A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT" Galatians 6:1-10; 14-18: Christian stewards sweeten the lives of everyone whose lives they touch. They are “burden bearers” who strive to do good to all people, especially their fellow Christians. May we not become weary in doing good!
ANNOUNCEMENTS “His Word, Our Joy” will not meet as regularly scheduled this Sunday evening as noted in the Worship Bulletin and Newsletter July calendars. However, we’ll see you in August. Faith Based Tuition Reminder: A reminder for parents and children attending St. John’s Lutheran School that the tuition rate for January-June will be reflected by the attendance from July through December. As a help to track your family’s attendance, the church office will provide a ‘check list’ to log your weekly attendance. These sheets will be available in the narthex. We would also encourage children to sign their own names on the attendance pads (with parent’s supervision, and legibly to help our attendance posters). July 15th Anniversary choir singers : All adults and children who will be singing for our special 150th Anniversary service on July 15th, please be in the church by 9:15 A.M.. Adults, please go directly to the choir loft. Children, please sit in the first few pews of the church. We will take a little time to get organized and pass out music, and then practice our songs before the service. Thank you! - Sue Rosselli Contemporary Worship: Contemporary Worship Services will be starting in August and will be held the 1st and the 4th Saturdays of the month. (Tentative time and place will be at 4:30 PM in the school gymnasium.) This service will not replace any of our regularly scheduled worship services, but will be an additional opportunity to worship. THIS SERVICE WILL COUNT TOWARD SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. Quilt: Make sure to attend Fellowship Coffee today, and see the quilt that was donated by Louise Yozman to help raise money for our 150th Anniversary projects. You may donate $1.00 to the fund and receive an entry to the drawing for the quilt. From the Board of Parish Fellowship: This is a reminder to Parish Fellowship Board members and representatives as specified by their respective Boards to meet Tuesday evening, July 10, at 7:00 p.m. in the Ladies Lounge. Visiting Board Representatives will be on the agenda first. We’ll plan work and fun activities for the Outdoor Worship Service/Family Picnic/Hog Roast on Sunday, August 26 with worship at 10:00 a.m. and the picnic/hog roast beginning at noon. 150th Anniversary Dinner: Reservations for the 150th Anniversary Dinner are in! If you would like to donate a favorite dessert, please call Dawn Crum. A final planning meeting for the 150th is Wednesday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Ladies Lounge. Prayer Vigil on Thursday, July 12: As we near the day of celebration for St. John’s Lutheran Church and School’s 150th Anniversary, we are called to remember all that God has done. To give each member an opportunity to express their thanksgiving, as well as to pray for the needs of St. John’s as well as the Church at large, a Prayer Vigil is to be held on Thursday, July 12, from 4 pm until 10 pm. The Sanctuary will be open for time of prayer, and leaders will be invited to conduct half hour times for prayer and praise. Contact Pastor Brauer or Susan Rosselli if you are interested or there are sign up sheets on all the church bulletin boards and in the narthex. There will also be some half hour time slots for simple, quiet meditation. An anniversary devotion booklet, with meditations on the stain glass windows of the church, will be available to those who attend. Vacation Bible School: Plan now for VBS! This year, VBS will be held July 30-August 3, from 9-11 AM. (More information will follow.) We need many volunteers to help with our VBS. If you would like to help, we need leaders, assistants, instructors for arts, crafts, and music. We also need snack providers and servers. If you can help in any way, please call Rhonda.. We also need snack providers and servers. If you can help in any way, please call Rhonda. Annual Planning Meeting: The annual planning breakfast is Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. The purpose is to plan and schedule activities for September 2007 through August 2008. All Boards and Circles should have a representative in attendance as well as any interested member of the congregation so their yearly planned activities are entered on the calendar, thus eliminating any conflicts when scheduling future church or school events. Please bring a breakfast dish to share. Beverages, plates and utensils will be provided. From Shadetree Mechanics: Check Engine Light on? Brakes Squealing? Hearing odd noises from your car? Now that spring is sprung, and hopefully, everyone’s mowers are running, St.. John’s Shadetree Mechanics will start meeting again to dive into other projects you may have. Please contact Luke Vandercar or Jim Peters to discuss vehicle problems you may be having. We will analyze the problem, the owner of the vehicle will buy parts and the Shadetree Mechanics will install the parts with no charge for labor. Call us! We can help! Thanks to our Floaters! Great Job! Thanks to all who worked preparing our 4th of July Float and to our ‘floaters’ who distributed pencils (while supply lasted!) We plan on having the float at church next week for the 150th celebration for you to see again. Donations: James and Dawn Crum and Kurt, Wendy, Emma and Zack Husmann made donations to the Hymnal Fund.

SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service.FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service.
