This Week at St. John’s St. Mary Magdalene - July 22, 2007
From Pastor Young: Greetings! Today, we celebrate the life of St. Mary Magdalene and her faithfulness and dedication to her Lord Jesus. It’s an even greater opportunity, however, to celebrate God’s grace given to her and all the women dedicated to Jesus as He lived among us. May God lead you to love and praise all the “virtuous women” who serve Christ among us.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
"A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT" Acts 13:26-31: All people who are confronted by Jesus fall into one of two categories: either they reject Him or they joyfully believe in Him and produce works of love. May we always be counted among the children of God who do things that honor God and bless others. Vacation Bible School: Plan now for VBS! This year, VBS will be held July 30-August 3, from 9-11 AM. (More information will follow.) We need many volunteers to help with our VBS. If you would like to help, we need leaders, assistants, instructors for arts, crafts, and music. We also need snack providers and servers. If you can help in any way, please call Rhonda. Faith Based Tuition Reminder: A reminder for parents and children attending St. John’s Lutheran School that the tuition rate for January-June will be reflected by the attendance from July through December. As a help to track your family’s attendance, the church has provided a ‘check list’ to log your weekly attendance. These sheets are available in the narthex and in the school entrance. We would also encourage children to sign their own names on the attendance pads (with parent’s supervision, and legibly to help our attendance posters). Contemporary Worship: Contemporary Worship Services will be starting in August and will be held the 1st and the 4th Saturdays of the month at 4:30 PM in the school gymnasium. This service will not replace any of our regularly scheduled worship services, but will be an additional opportunity to worship. THIS SERVICE WILL COUNT TOWARD SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. Annual Planning Meeting: The annual planning breakfast is Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria. The purpose is to plan and schedule activities for September 2007 through August 2008. All Boards and Circles should have a representative in attendance as well as any interested member of the congregation so their yearly planned activities are entered on the calendar, thus eliminating any conflicts when scheduling future church or school events. Please bring a breakfast dish to share. Beverages, plates and utensils will be provided. From the Board of Parish Fellowship: Weekly Fellowship Coffee Hours on Sunday, August 12 will feature blueberry treats; September 9, peach; and October 14, apple. Please be sure to come after the 8:00 a.m. worship service to enjoy these wonderful, nourishing treats followed by spiritual nourishment through Bible study. Mark your calendar now for Sunday, August 26, 2007. Our Annual Outdoor Worship Service begins at 10:00 a.m. with the Family Picnic/Hog Roast at noon in the school gymnasium. Wendell Cooper, the gentleman who roasted pigs for our first hog roast will do the roasting again this year. Each family should bring one or two hot or cold side dishes of generous proportion and/or dessert to share. In addition, each family should provide its own table service. Games for children and adults are being planned with prizes for all the winners. Membership of the various Boards, Trustees and congregation are joining together to make this another enjoyable day of worship, food, fun and fellowship for our congregation. Donations: Mrs. Doane Wright made a donation to the Hymnal Fund in loving memory of her husband, Doane Wright, and her parents, Lewis and Myrtle Dahl. Roger and Jane Geske made a donation to the 150th Anniversary Fund in loving memory of her parents, George and Gertrude Ebeling. Chris and Tracy Fronk and family, Dr. Robert and Edna Kelsey, Dorothy Wolfe, Curtis and Marian Passafume, Irma Bikneris, Adele McClelland and Margaret Chmielowiec made donations to the Hymnal Fund.

SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service.FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service.
