This Week at St. John’s Sunday of the Fulfillment-November 25, 2007
From Pastor Brauer: Welcome in the name of our crucified, risen, ascended, and glorified Lord Jesus Christ! Today is the last Sunday in the Church Year. We celebrate this as the Sunday of the Fulfillment, trusting Jesus to bring to completion in His day all that He has purposed with His Word and Spirit. We offer hymns of praise to Christ the King, that same King of the Jews nailed to the shameful tree of the cross. But can we look on Him, bleeding on that cross, and call Him our beautiful Savior? By faith we can and we do, thanking Him for His great love and His sacrifice for us. We then go forth in peace, telling everyone what He has done!
ANNOUNCEMENTS "A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT" Colossians 1:13-20: The Epistle reading for the last Sunday in the church year reminds us that God in Christ rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into His kingdom of light so we might use all of life and life’s resources in service to Him and our neighbor. (LCMS)
Important Dates to remember for Sunday School: (No Lessons) Other news: From now until December 23rd, Sunday School is collecting non-perishable food for the St. John’s food pantry. The class that brings in the most food items will win a special treat! Church Christmas Decorations: We will be decorating the church on Thursday, November 29 from 4:30 until we finish. All helping hands are appreciated, as well as some strong arms and backs for our angels. Thank you! Sue Rosselli Fish Fry: The School Board and the PTL, along with numerous volunteers, are planning our next Fish Fry for Friday, November 30. We are looking for sponsors to offset the cost, and our goal is as follows: receive 4 free dinner tickets. If you can help with a donation or services, please contact Linda in the Church Office or Cindy in the School Office. We will also need pies for dessert. Anyone wishing to donate pies should have them at the school gymnasium by 4 p.m. the day of the fish fry. If you have any questions, please call Annette Williams at 326-8017. Thank you in advance for your support! Do You Hear Music in The Air? The time is coming for our Christmas Concert! Mark your calendars for next SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2, at 3:00 PM in the church. The Walther League Chorus, King's Kids, Christus Chorus and our soloists and instrumentalists are preparing a joyful celebration in song for you. You will be filled and surrounded by the love of Jesus as our theme, "Clothed in the Righteousness of Christ" unfolds. This year, you and anyone you bring are all invited to join us for a reception in the school cafeteria for refreshments and fellowship following the concert. There are no tickets to purchase, the concert is free! Poinsettias: It is time for us to start asking for donations for the poinsettias. We do appreciate all your help in the past and pray that you will be so generous again this year. The cost per poinsettia is $12.00 this year. You can give your donation to the Church Office, Marilyn Boardman, Mary Jo Uebele, or Sherrill Lee. Please let us know at that time if you will be picking up your poinsettia. The poinsettias will be taken down after the 2nd service on the Sunday, December 30. If you are going to take your poinsettia, please be there to pick it up at that time. If not for yourself, maybe you know someone who would really appreciate a flower and a visit from you. Thank you again for your donation to the flower fund. From the Newspaper Committee: The Newspaper Committee has a good supply of Al’s certificates/Kroger cards. These are great for purchasing all of your Christmas food items , and make good gifts as well! You may purchase them in the church office, or from Karen Piper, Ellen Heidel and Alyce Compton. Thank you for supporting the church and school through this project. Feel free to stop in with questions that you may have, or call Karen or Ellen. Can Recycling Day: Imogene Dahl encourages all to please keep saving cans and scrap metal. Our next recycle day will be February 23. For safety reasons, please do not bring cans and scrap until the day of, or the afternoon before the recycle day. Computers by Christmas: Our goal is in sight! To date, we have collected $8,546.84—57% of our goal! Thanks to those who have already contributed to the fund! Your contribution will make a positive effect in the lives of many children for years to come. There is still time to reach our goal by Christmas. Please direct any questions to Nichole Schuster or Maria Surma. Thanks: My family and I thank everyone who shared in my 80th birthday celebration on Sunday, November 4. Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your cards, gifts, and especially for your presence. Dorothy Moellman Thanks to Brad and Jill (Peters) Rukstales for the donation of CD cases for the 150th Anniversary CD, and to Jim and Linda Peters for doing all the work producing them. SPECIAL NEEDS: Persons unable to climb stairs to the altar are invited to sit in the extra-wide front pews to receive communion or to place a walker. ST. JOHN’S COMMUNION STATEMENT: As a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we believe Scripture teaches that the Lord's Supper is a precious gift of God in which Christ gives us His true body and blood (in a miraculous way), together with the bread and wine, for the forgiveness of our sins and the strengthening of our faith. Because the Bible teaches that this sacrament may also be spiritually harmful if misused, St. John’s communes only those instructed in the teachings of the LCMS and our church who have confessed their faith in these teachings. Prompted by the love for God’s Word, love for God’s people, and love for the Bible’s deep concern for doctrinal truth (Romans 16:17), guests who desire to commune are asked to speak with the pastor before service.FELLOWSHIP COFFEE: All are invited to our Fellowship Coffee across the driveway in our School Cafeteria following the 8:00 AM Sunday Service. BIBLE CLASSES: Adult Bible Study follows the Fellowship Coffee in the Cafeteria at 9:30 AM. SUNDAY SCHOOL: Sunday School begins at 9:30 in the Church Lower Level.
